The S&P 500 dropped 7 points to 1,260, up slightly this week.
And the Nasdaq composite declined 14 points to 2,310, essentially unchanged for the week.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a slim margin.
Volume on the NYSE came to 4.4 billion shares. Nasdaq stock market volume was 2 billion shares.
Crude closed at $125.10, up $1.02 in New York.
