Superjumbo jet has first commercial landing

NEW YORK (AP) - August 1, 2008 More than 500 passengers and crew arrived Friday afternoon on Emirates Airline Flight 3801 from Dubai. They flew on the Airbus A380, which is billed as the world's largest passenger aircraft.

The Airbus A380 first landed at JFK in March 2007 as part of a promotional trip to showcase the 239-foot-long jet. It can seat 555 passengers in a typical three-class configurations, or 853 passengers in economy. Its wings are as long as football fields.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has spent $179 million to prepare the airport to accommodate the wider, heavier aircraft.
