Ventnor standoff ends in arrests

VENTNOR, N.J. - August 3, 2008 Once the police arrived, it was reported that three males who live at that address had been involved in an altercation with a neighbor and that one of the males had brandished a handgun and then retreated into the house.

Repeated attempts at contact with the males were made with no response.

The area was secured and treated as a barricaded situation. Police crisis negotiators eventually made contact with the occupants who surrendered themselves to members of the Regional Emergency Response Team a short time later.

Police arrested Stephen Brown, 21 of Ventnor who is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit terroristic threats and disorderly conduct; Evan Schwartz, 19 of Ventnor who is charged with conspiracy to commit terroristic threats and disorderly conduct; and Todd Gromacki, 21 of Ventnor who was charged with disorderly conduct. Bail was set at $20,000.00 for Brown; Schwartz and Gromakci were released.

Police recovered two Airsoft Pistols from the home. No one was injured during the incident or subsequent arrests.

Officers and other emergency personnel from several jurisdictions assisted in the operation.
