4 dead, 5 injured in overnight violence - Philadelphia News

PHILADELPHIA - August 10, 2008 In Southwest Philadelphia police are invetsigating a double stabbing in 6300 block of Chester Avenue. Around 12:30 this morning, 41-year-old Flrrest Bell, from the 6000 block of Regent Street, was found dead with multiple stab wounds. A woman in her 30s was taken to the hospital with a stab wound to her leg.

Then, in North Philadelphia, a teenager was killed in a double shooting. Police say gunfire erupted outside the Players Go Go Lounge in the 800 block of East Allegheny Avenue at about 2:30.

19-year-old Darrien Grant from the 5000 block of Homestead Avenue was fatally shot in the head. Another 19-year-old, who was shot in the face, is listed in critical condition.

Three men were shot in Philadelphia's Logan section around 1:00. It happened near the intersection of 11th and Somerville.

A 26-year-old was shot in the head and a 24-year-old was shot in the leg, both of those victims are in serious condition. A 22-year-old was shot in the stomach and is in critical condition.

Police have fished a gun out of a sewer in the area of the shooting.

Around 6:35 this morning a 48-year-old man was found dead in a patch of grass along the 900 block of Cumberland Street. He had been shot in the back. The victim was not yet been identified.

A 32-year-old man was shot in the back of the head in the 5700 Block of Baltimore Avenue around 12:30. He was pronounced dead at around 9:30am.

This time last year our homicide rate was at 257. Today's murders bring this year's rate to 197.
