Obama raises more than twice as McCain in NJ

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - August 11, 2008 The Democratic presidential candidate continues to score big on college campuses, with contributions flowing from Princeton and Rutgers universities.

An analysis by The Star-Ledger of Newark finds faculty, students and staff at Princeton contributed $72,595 to Obama. The Democrat received nearly $40,000 from those with ties to Rutgers.

Princeton residents are major contributors to both Obama and McCain, donating more than $600,000 to the candidates.

Federal Election Commission reports show McCain raised $2.5 million in New Jersey by the end of June. The Democrat amassed nearly $5.9 million.
