Police impersonator arrested

WILMINGTON, Del.- August 14, 2008-

Rodney O. Vereen, 33, of Waldorf, Maryland, was wanted in both Georgia and North Carolina. In Georgia, investigators say Vereen had impersonated a police officer there, then left the area while on probation.

Police in Greensboro, North Carolina say Vereen befriended a woman, convinced her to give him money and a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. Police say Vereen then fled the area.

On Wednesday, police in Delaware were notified that Vereen was staying in the 2500 block of West 4th Street in Wilmington. Once they arrived, police say they saw that Impala.

Once they had a warrant, police say they went inside and found Vereen. They also found several law enforcement items, including emergency lights and handcuffs.

Police say Vereen will be returned to North Carolina to face charges.
