3 University of Delaware students attacked

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - August 23, 2008 Police say the incident was the first off-campus attack this school year against university students.

Police say two female students and a male student were attacked early Friday by three women and a man armed with a gun.

The students had left a party and were heading to a convenience store when a heavyset woman with a tattoo running the length of her right arm threw one of the women to the ground. A second woman then stomped on the woman's back until she let go of her purse and the armed man robbed the male student.

Investigators say the second female victim was walking to the store with another group of friends and was choked and thrown to the ground by a third female assailant who took her purse.

Police say the four attackers fled and none of the students required medical attention.
