Teen injured in road rage incident

CENTERVILLE , Del. - August 26, 2008 Police in Delaware are searching for a man after the teenage girl says he pulled a knife on her and punched her in the face at in intersection Monday.

Police are looking for a white man who matches the following description:

  • gray hair
  • 55 to 60 years old
  • 5'02" to 5'05" tall
  • 175 to 180 pounds
  • driving a late model pickup truck - black or blue

Police say the teen was following another car along Route 1 and turned onto Monchanin Road in Delaware just after 3 p.m. Monday. The attacker was in a truck behind her, passed her and another vehicle, and then stopped an intersection. The man in the truck waved the first car through, but stopped the teen when she tried to pass.

The teen told police the man accused her of driving recklessly, reached through her slightly-opened window with a knife and put it up against her throat and started to threaten her life. The girl suffered a superficial wound to her hand, according to police. Then the man punched the 17-year-old in the face, rolled the window down the rest of the way, and broke her car key off in the ignition.

A bystander approached the scene and the suspect got back into his truck and drove off.
