The Republican National Convention starts on Labor Day, September 1, in St. Paul, Minnesota. And Action News will be there to capture every angle of this major political story.

In fact, we are sending Matt O'Donnell a day early. Look for his first report on Action News at 11pm Sunday.

Here is among the storylines for the GOP's quadrennial meeting:

Will Senator John McCain's running mate help him, hurt him, or do a little bit of both? Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is conservative (pro-life and an NRA member), she is widely popular in her state, she has five children (her latest just arrived in April), her oldest son is in the military and heading to Iraq in September...plus, Palin has become a bit of an internet sensation because of her attractive looks.

However, some voters may have a problem with her being a heartbeat away from the presidency, given McCain's age and physical condition.

Can McCain remain close enough to the president to make conservatives happy, but keep enough distance to satisfy the rest of the electorate?

Will McCain be able to counter Senator Obama's oratory gifts and deliver a rousing speech on the final day of the convention (Thursday night)?

Will Matt and his crew get any sleep? (Not likely)

Watch for his reports throughout the convention week on Action News mornings, plus at 5,6 and 11pm.
