Oprah to Welcome Olympians on 6abc

Some of the Olympic medal winners have been welcomed home Oprah-style.

Thousands of people gathered in a downtown Chicago park yesterday to watch /*Oprah Winfrey tape her show's season premiere. And her first guests this season will be some of the U.S. Olympians. Michael Phelps, Kobe Bryant and Dara Torres were among those who took part in the taping.

They were greeted by thunderous applause and showered with red, white and blue confetti.

People started lining up hours before the taping of the show. There were about 2,000 seats and 7,000 lawn spots.

Two-thousand seats were also set aside for the Olympians' family and friends. Tickets for Winfrey's show tapings are generally hard generally hard to get and can only be reserved by phone. Winfrey is also hoping the show highlights the city as it bids for the 2016 Games.
