The Democrat from Camden County said in April that he would not seek re-election to the post he has held since 1990. Instead, he mounted an ill-fated primary challenge to U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg.
Andrews' wife, Camille, took his place on the party's 1st Congressional District ballot and easily won the primary in June. It was expected that she would be replaced before the November general election. But in the spring, Rob Andrews insisted it would not be by him.
Andrews said Thursday that he was convinced he wanted a job in the private sector, but after negotiating for a position with Wall Street investment firm Goldman Sachs decided that he wanted to remain an elected official.
"After a lot of reflection, consideration, prayer and discussions with my family, I have decided to ask the people of South Jersey for the privilege of going back to Washington as their congressman for the next two years," he said.
The Burlington, Camden and Gloucester County Democratic organizations still have to approve putting his name back on the ballot.
