Bodies of missing fishermen found

SALEM, N.J. - September 4, 2008 A passerby at a Barbers Basin, a local marina, spotted a body in the water at approximately 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning about 200 yards from the Penn-Salem bridge.

The Coast Guard had a boat nearby and the crew recovered the body of one of the missing fishermen.

While that recovery was in progress the body of the second man surfaced.

The Medical Examiner has done the autopsies and positively identified the bodies as those of Gerald Lewis, 33, and Larry Preston, 37, both of Salem.

The cause of death has been determined to be drowning.

The men were reported missing Monday night after a witness reported hearing splashing and voices in distress near where the men were fishing.
