Heating advice from the Old Farmer's Almanac

DUBLIN, N.H. (AP) - September 9, 2008

As usual, it's full of folksy advice including how to beat high heating costs.

The Almanac recounts a secret from the late 1770s on heating a home with one log the entire winter.

Throw the log out of an upstairs window, run down the stairs to get it -- and keep doing it over and over.

Editor Janice Stillman says work up a sweat and you'll be warm all winter.

The Old Farmer's Almanac is North America's oldest continuously published periodical.
