Dover Air Force Base is being improved with construction projects totaling $522 million.

Col. Steven Harrison, commander of the 436th Airlift Wing says the U.S. Air Force recognizes that the mission at the base is unique. He says it saves lives and delivers freedom every day. He says Dover is a gem for the Department of Defense.

With its fleet of C-5 Galaxy and C-17 Globemaster III cargo aircraft, Dover Air Force Base is one of the chief shipper of military supplies and humanitarian aid. Dover also is home to the only port mortuary in the continental U.S.

The ongoing construction projects include the construction of a 980 home housing development, a nearly $80 million air freight terminal, and a new air traffic control tower. A new youth center is set to open this week.
