Police are not releasing any details about the mother's identity.
However, Action News has learned that she's 29-years-old, and is from the local area.
Action News has also learned she felt she couldn't properly care for the child, and is emotionally upset about the developments in this case.
The mother's identity was discovered after the widespread airing of a 911 call made the morning the baby was found.
"Baby Jack," as he's now being called, is in custody of Montgomery County Children and Youth.
Further developments in this case are expected on Wednesday.
The baby was found just after 3:00 a.m. Sunday by police, after an anonymous woman called 911 to say the baby was left in front of the Plymouth Fire Company on Colwell Lane.
Plymouth Police responded to the fire company and located a newborn baby boy wrapped in a shirt.
The baby was transported to Montgomery Hospital where it was determined that the infant was probably no more than two hours old.
Investigators do know the call came from a gas station pay phone about a half mile from the fire station.
The child is healthy, and doctors says he was carried to term.
He is 19 inches long, weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces.
