CHERRY HILL, N.J. - September 11, 2008 Two of the three southbound lanes of I-295 are opened, police hope to reopen the third lane by 1:00 a.m. Friday morning. The northbound lanes remain open.

Police say the tractor trailer carrying heavy machinery was heading northbound, and crossed into the southbound lanes. That's when it hit a Volkswagen, killing the male driver, identified as 66-year-old Lawrence Wright of Keller, Texas, 44-year-old, instantly.

The out-of-control truck, driven by 40-year-old Sheraz Khan of Babylon, NY, then jacknifed, and collided with a box truck, driven by 44-year-old Renee Lesensko of Fuller Street in Northeast Philadelphia, carrying produce, killing Lesensko and a male passenger, identified as 42-year -old Juma Rajab of Hoffman Street in South Philadelphia .

"It hit the truck so hard the box came off," said truck driver Frank Maier of Baltimore, Maryland who witnessed the crash. "That's when we started slamming the brakes. I came within six feet of it when I finally stopped."

New Jersey State Police say the rig clipped a metal barrier, but for the most part went through a part of the median that was open.

Police say Khan, who was not injured, told them he was cut off by another vehicle, leading to the crash. Officers say they're still investigating.

"Where he has been today, where he is coming from, what he is hauling, when he slept last, all of things will be factors to determine what happened," said Cpl. Donald Bourbon. There were no other injuries.
