Man wanted in Newark kidnapping, robbery

NEWARK, Del. - September 15, 2008 28-year-old Kareem Barksdale is wanted for kidnapping his ex-girlfriend, assaulting her, threatening to kill her family and then taking her to a local bank where he forced her to remove cash from her account.

The warrant stems from an incident that occurred on Sunday. County Police responded to a home in the 100 block of Hedgewick Drive in Newark for a report of a domestic related kidnapping and robbery. When officers arrived the 23-year-old female victim said her ex-boyfriend, Barksdale, had called her earlier in the day and threatened to kill her and her family if she didn't give him money.

Barksdale was waiting for her while sitting inside a car with two other females when the victim arrived home. He then forced her into the car and began to assault her while they drove her to the Commerce Bank at the Governor's Square Shopping Plaza.

One of the females in the car escorted the victim into the bank where she removed an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim gave the cash to Barksdale who then drove her home and allowed her to exit the car.

Barksdale is currently wanted for kidnapping, robbery, assault and terroristic threatening.
