A grand jury has indicted six men being held for their alleged roles in the execution-style slayings of three friends in a Newark schoolyard last year.

The men were indicted Monday, more than a year after the Aug. 4, 2007 attacks on three college students hanging out behind the Mount Vernon School.

Three were killed, one woman survived.

The suspects, who have reputed links to the MS-13 street gang, were indicted on 17 counts, including three counts of murder and three counts of robbery. According to The Star-Ledger of Newark, two of the men were also indicted on two counts of sexual assault arising from the attack on the surviving victim.

Prosecutors have planned a 2 p.m. news conference to discuss the case.

The victims in the Newark slayings were shot in the head after being ordered to kneel in front of a wall. A fourth friend survived.

Dashon Harvey, 20, Terrance Aeriel, 18, and Iofemi Hightower, 20, were shot execution-style behind an elementary school. Aeriel's 19-year-old sister, Natasha Aeriel- who also attends DSU - also was wounded in the Aug. 4 2007 shootings, but she survived.
