Motorcyclist killed in Delaware accident

BEAR, Del. - September 16, 2008 A 2006 Yamaha Raven motorcycle, operated by a 21-year-old male resident from Bear, was traveling southbound on Route 72 approaching the intersection with Route 71 around 7:00 this morning. A 2000 Chevrolet 3500 stake body truck, operated by Jose Silva-Velarde, 45, of Pennsylvania, was traveling northbound on Route 72 and was approaching Route 71.

The Chevrolet executed a left turn toward Route 71 westbound and into the path of the motorcycle. The operator of the Yamaha laid the bike down just prior to the impact and then collided with the side of the truck. The bike split into two pieces.

The operator of the bike was pronounced dead at the scene. His name will be released after his family has been notified. He was wearing a helmet.

This crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
