"As you all know, we've had five police officers killed in the last two years. It's almost unbelievable, but that's what we're faced with and that's why we're here today," organizer Jimmy Binns said.
Isabel Nazario died earlier this month in a police chase. Her 15-year-old daughter Jasmine thanked the crowd for their emotional and financial support.
"I'm definitely going to college. That was my mother's dream, not only that, a college education is so important in today's society," Jasmine said.
Last year, the Thrill Show raised $500,000 in scholarship funds, thanks to people who are happy to contribute to the cause.
"I'm very, very proud of the way Philadelphia pulls together when these things happen; it's very, very impressive," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said.
"It's a good feeling. It makes me feel good to actually help other people," Karen Mercurio of Northeast Philadelphia said.
That is what the event is all about - helping others.
