Troopers went to the home in the 20000 block of Wesley Church Road after 9 p.m. Thursday after a relative called 911 to report the man wanted to harm himself and he was armed.
Police say troopers saw the man leave the home with a gun, but he refused officers' requests to drop the weapon, and went back inside.
Around 6 a.m. Friday, police say the man abruptly came outside and aggressively pointed a shotgun at nearby troopers. Police say another trooper fired one shot at the man fearing for the safety of the other troopers.
Troopers immediately began life saving efforts, but the man died from the wound.
