Search near schools nets suspect

TURNERSVILLE, N.J. - October 3, 2008

Police say two men were carjacked and driven to Winslow Township. The suspect dropped off the men and then fled in the vehicle up Route 42 northbound.

Suspect was chased on Route 42 and then got into a accident. The man ran away and ducked into a neighborhood in Washington Twp.

Police searched the area and caught the suspect, who was carrying a knife. The initial report indicated that the male was possessing a handgun. That weapon has not been found or recovered.

Police tell Action News that the suspect will face carjacking and related charges.

The two schools that were locked down are the Bells Elementary School and the Birches Elementary School.

The students are safe and school officials tell Action News they implemented their "shelter in place" plans.
