1 dead, 1 injured in N. Philly stabbing

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - October 12, 2008 Authorities tell Action News that police were called to the 1600 block of North 16th Street around 3:30 a.m. after 28-year-old Salmon Carter stabbed his girlfriend, identified as 32-year-old Karimah Ballard, in the neck.

Ballard's friend, along with 5 children were in the apartment when the incident happened. The friend was stabbed once in the arm while trying to intervene.

Temple Police along with Philadelphia Police arrived and found the injured women inside. Carter had locked himself inside of the bathroom and was taken into custody by police at the scene.

Ballard was transported to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, but later died as a result of her injuries.

Carter faces numerous charges.
