Trenton hostage situation ends peacefully

TRENTON, N.J. - October 21, 2008 The incident began sometime late last night in the 100 block of Pennington Avenue near Calhoun Street, and continued into the morning. Police sources say 32-year-old Enrique Aviles held 3 women and 2 children inside the home.

Aviles is now in custody.

One of the children is apparently the suspect's own child. The child's mother, who is not one of the women being held, had a protection from abuse order, according to authorities.

The Mayor's Office tells Action News that Monument Elementary School, which is located at the intersection of Pennington and Calhoun, and is in close proximity to the scene of the hostage situation, was closed for the day. Parents were notified early this morning that school was cancelled for the day.
