Man shot and killed by police ID'd

Police have identified the man who was shot and killed during an altercation with police. Investigators say that man is 38-year-old Michael Johnson.

Officials say they were trying to stop a car stop in the area of the 1400 block of North 56th street shortly after 7pm Tuesday.

Police say Johnson got out of the car and tried to flee. Police gave chase and when they caught up to him, he produced a gun.

Police pulled their weapons and two officers opened fire, killing Johnson.

The incident remains under investigation by police homicide division and internal affairs.

No word what led police to attempt to stop the car.
