Possible drug firm at Willow Grove

Officials in a suburban Philadelphia township are questioning a drug firm's possible move to the Willow Grove Naval Air Station.

Teva Pharmaceuticals is thinking about moving its distribution center to an 850,000-square-foot facility at the Horsham base.

Township officials are asking whether Teva would pay local taxes and conform to local ordinances. They also say it has nothing to do with national defense or homeland security and question whether it is an appropriate tenant at the base.

But a spokesman for Gov. Ed Rendell says the firm has some Defense Department contracts and could help out in a national crisis. State officials say the talks are very preliminary and the idea would be subject to Navy approval.
