First flu cases confirmed in Delaware

DOVER, DEL.; Nov. 4, 2008

Delaware health officials have announced the state's first confirmed influenza cases of the winter season.

A 6 year-old child from New Castle County was confirmed with type B influenza on Friday by the Delaware Public Health Laboratory.

A 26 year-old Wilmington resident has been confirmed with influenza, but test results on the strain are still pending.

Of the 56 lab-confirmed cases of influenza across the nation this fall, 25 percent were influenza B viruses similar to Delaware's case.
