Comcast, Cox to slash jobs in slowing economy

PHILADELPHIA - November 5, 2008 - Cox told employees on Monday that it is cutting 460 jobs - or 2 percent of its work force - through early retirement offers, attrition and possibly layoffs.

Comcast is laying off 300 employees out of a work force of 100,000 nationwide. Most job cuts are at CN8, a local TV network that serves over eight million households in the northeast. It airs public affairs and community programming focusing primarily on city and regional interests.
