Bag heist leads to pursuit, arrests

CONCORDVILLE, Pa. - November 19, 2008 State Troopers were stopped at a red light at Route 202 and Ridge Road in Concord Township, Delaware County in front of the Glen Eagle Shopping Center when they watched two vehicles travel through a green light and turn onto route 202 southbound.

Troopers noticed that one vehicle, a white Jeep Cherokee, had a Delaware registration and began to speed up as it continued to travel southbound.

The troopers then received a "smashed window alarm" dispatch at the Vivi G. Shoe Store in the Glen Eagle Shopping Center. A Trooper recognized that the Jeep he had noticed before may be involved.

The troopers continued southbound and attempted to find the Jeep, which had now turned off of Route 202.

Troopers began searching the area while other members responded to the alarm. While on Smithbridge Road the white Jeep passed the troopers and a pursuit ensued.

The chase entered the State of Delaware and quickly returned to Pennsylvania, in Chester County.

The pursuit continued another 50 minutes with troopers from Avondale and Embreeville joining the pursuit.

On several occasions the suspects attempted to ram trooper's vehicles and stop/spike sticks were deployed. The suspect's vehicle received two flat tires and was stopped in a rolling roadblock at Route 926 and Hallmore Road.

Taken into custody were 21-year-old Eric Garfield Lecompte of Wilmington, Delaware and Harry Wilbert Anderson, 41, of Wilmington.

The Jeep ended up being stolen, and inside troopers found approximately $30,000 in stolen handbags/merchandise from Vivi G. Shoes.

Lecompte and Anderson are currently awaiting arraignment on burglary, theft, aggravated assault and related charges.
