Eastern Pa. man scammed on backhoe deal

An eastern Pennsylvania man thought he had a good bargain when he was offered a $16,000 backhoe for $6,000. Too good, it turns out. Berks-Lehigh Regional Police say Lou Heiney looked at the 1987 backhoe in June at a property in Upper Macungie Township, about 40 miles north of Philadelphia.

The seller, 54-year-old Dennis Lichtenwalner, drove the machine around to show that it worked. Heiney made payments totaling $2,500 before he was suddenly unable to reach Lichtenwalner .

Officer Peter Nickischer says it turned out the backhoe actually belongs to a business owner at the property where Heiney looked at it. He says police are looking for Lichtenwalner, whose last known address was in Allentown. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on theft and related charges.
