A real chess match in prison

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - November 20, 2008

Not to do time, but to help pass the time.

A-half dozen Princeton students faced off against 46 inmates yesterday, over chess boards.

The chess club at New Jersey State Prison has 75 members, including Kelvin Washington.

He's doing a 50-year stretch for robbery.

Yesterday, he played sophomore David Wang.

Washington didn't win, but he was grateful for the opportunity.

Washington says playing chess gives him a break from the prison monotony.
