Del. woman gets 15 years for drowning daughter

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - November 21, 2008 Judge M. Jane Brady sentenced 34-year-old Christie Padovani on Friday to 15 years in prison followed by six months home confinement or work release. Padovani pleaded guilty but mentally ill in August to second-degree murder by abuse or neglect.

Prosecutors say Padovani drowned her infant daughter in the bathtub of her home on Sept. 29, 2007, and then immediately called 911 and confessed to the drowning.

During her prison term, Padovani will have to complete mental health treatment and take all prescribed medications and continue her treatment and comply with random drug testing after her release.
