Crime Fighters Update: Arrest made

36-year-old Joseph Torres, nicknamed "Papo", lost his life October 28, 2007.

He was shot in the head outside the Latin Room bar in Philadelphia's Hunting Park section.

The family put together a $5,000 reward for anyone with information that would lead to an arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

That's just what happened.

"In July of this year we got information from a caller who gave us a partial name and a nickname," John Appledorn of the Citizens Crime Commission said.

The police did arrest a man by the name of Carmello Ortiz, whose nickname was "Tank".

The Citizens Crime Commission says this is an example of how the anonymous tip system works.

"People can call us, feel secure in the information they're given, and a lot of times it's profitable for them," Appeldorn said.

If you have any knowledge of any crimes feel free to make a call to 215-546-TIPS.
