Shoppers snap up Black Friday deals

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - November 28, 2008 But her husband's 12 siblings? They probably won't be finding gifts under her tree as the 55-year-old South Philadelphia woman downsizes her Christmas budget.

Murray is far from alone in her quest for deals and her cost-consciousness.

Pennsylvanians hit the malls in search of deals on Black Friday, the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season.

Nationwide, retailers were anticipating a difficult season as the economy continues to struggle and consumers count their pennies.

In Pittsburgh, Anne Turkowski headed out on Black Friday because it's a family tradition.

She says she'll probably be more deal-conscious this year, but that she may end up spending about the same as she did last year.
