Hundreds of mourners gathered at a Clifton church Saturday to say farewell to a man gunned down there last weekend. Authorities say 25-year-old Dennis Malloosseril of Hawthorne was killed when he tried to quell a dispute between 24-year-old Reshma James and her estranged husband, Joseph Palliparuth.

James also was fatally shot, and her cousin, 47-year-old Silvy Perincheril, was seriously wounded. She remains hospitalized in critical condition.

"Dennis had a gift for loving life and loving people," Malloosseril's father said in a statement read by a relative. "He gave himself up helping a total stranger."

The 27-year-old Palliparuth, who lived in Sacramento, Calif., was arrested Tuesday in Georgia on charges of homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault and weapons offenses. He is expected to be returned to Passaic County early next week.
