Coyote caught in Pa. store

December 8, 2008

In Lower Nazareth Township, near Bethlehem, wildlife officers removed a coyote from a Sears Appliance & Hardware store on Monday afternoon. The animal had been inside the store's main vestibule. It was tranquilized and carried out.

Earlier in the day, a work crew was dispatched to Warwick High School in Lititz to pick up an animal that had been fatally struck by a vehicle. It was thought to be a large dog, but turned out to be a male coyote weighing about 50 pounds.

Coyotes are secretive and nocturnal, but have been found in greater numbers in Pennsylvania in recent years. They have been seen in every county, including in Philadelphia.
