Gomez was being held in a homicide holding cell at police headquarters at 8th and Race streets Monday night. Somehow, Gomez got out through the ceiling of his cell and managed to get out of the building.
Investigators have not yet said which homicide case Gomez claimed to have information about, but a search is underway.
Police were holding a news conference at headquarters Monday night just before 9 p.m.
Gomez is described as being 5'8" tall and weighing about 140 pounds.
