Battle over inauguration booze sales

WASHINGTON (AP) - December 10, 2008

The Washington, D.C. Council has passed an emergency measure allowing drink sales until 5 a.m. between Jan. 17 and 21.

Club and bar owners love the idea.

But Senators Diane Feinstein and Bob Bennett are asking city officials to stuff a cork in the extended drinking hours.

The senators say more drinking could create an extra burden for police already stretched to secure President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration.

Both senators are involved with inauguration planning.
