Suburban Philadelphia congressman Jim Gerlach says he's considering running for Pennsylvania governor in 2010. The Republican Gerlach says in a statement Wednesday he plans to make his decision in upcoming weeks.

He says an enthusiastic primary gives the Republicans an opportunity to prove they have the ability and new ideas to lead the state.

Gerlach was recently elected to a fourth term. An attorney, Gerlach has also served in the Pennsylvania House and Senate.

Attorney General Tom Corbett and former U.S. attorney in Philadelphia Patrick Meehan have also been mentioned as possible GOP candidates.
