What makes the jet stream move?

December 11, 2008

Erica's Answer:

In fact, meteorologists have a name for the area of fastest wind speeds in a jet stream. It's called the jet streak.

Lots of environmental factors help to steer the jet stream. The change of seasons, land masses and oceans, warming and cooling patterns over land and water… these are all examples of environmental factors that affect the jet stream's path. Other environmental factors, such as tornadoes, lakes, and snow-capped mountains are too small to affect the path of the jet stream.
