Mrs. Fixit: Kitchen Help

December 13, 2008

If you're slicing onions or apples, and they're rolling all over, pull out the little forks that you use for corn on the cob. The little tines will hold it steady while you're slicing.

If you're making cookies or pies and need to roll out some dough, you'll need flour. but pulling it from the canister each time can make a big mess. Instead, fill a grated cheese shaker with flour and you have a handy duster for your rolling service and your rolling pin.

That cheese shaker will also come in handy when decorating your cookies. Sprinkles make a big mess, the shaker will give you more control.

Sugar sprinkles can come out way too fast, so transfer the sprinkles to a salt shaker and those sprinkles will be in check.

If you need to quickly soften butter for a recipe, heat a metal bowl under hot, running water. cut your butter into cubes and flip the bowl over the butter. The heat that comes off the bowl will soften the butter quickly without melting it.

Easy kitchen help. I'm Mrs. Fixit and it's just that simple.
