It was a close call for a New Jersey State Corrections Officer late last night. He survived being shot during a carjacking. The ordeal started on the 1000 block of Sycamore Street in Camden. Police say an armed man approached the off-duty officer. He forced his way into the officer's car. A scuffle ensued and the suspect's gun went off, shooting the officer in the leg.

The officer got away and called 9-1-1 for help.

His car was later found at 6th and Pine Streets, but the gunman is still at large.
