One shooting victim is dead and a second one is in critical condition, after their efforts to drive themselves to the hospital ended when their car slammed into a wall of the YMCA in Wilmington, Delaware.

Police say the two were part of a running gun battle with another car down the streets of Wilmington early Monday morning.

Neighbors along South Union Street heard gunshots about one in the morning.

Shortly after that, the car smashed through a fence and hit the YMCA wall on the 500 block of West 11th Street, just two blocks from Christiana Hospital.

When police pulled the two victims out of the car one was already dead. Police say the 19-year-old victim died from gunshot wounds he sustained prior to the car crash. The other man is in critical condition at the hospital.

There's no word on whether police have any idea who was in the other car.
