Disabled man, dog hit by car

VENTNOR, N.J. - December 16, 2008 - A disabled man and his dog were hit by a driver who never stopped.

The dog, a 7-year-old yellow lab named "Trapper" was seriously hurt and is healing at the Margate Animal Hospital.

Trapper and his owner, Williams Rosche, were walking early Monday morning when they were struck.

Rosche and Trapper were crossing Monmouth at Newport in Ventnor. Rosche noticed a car that he thinks dropped someone off. It unexpectedly turned, hit the pair, and drove off.

Rosche was knocked down, but Trapper was dragged by the car. The dog's injuries will require surgery and months of care, which could run into the thousands of dollars.

Phones were ringing off the hook Tuesday from people calling in donations.
