Use after-holiday sales to stock up

Many stores are having post-holiday sales, with discounts of 50% and more on holiday items. Here are some ideas to use those discounted holiday items in the upcoming year.

If wrapping paper is on sale, buy your holiday paper and put it away for next year. But also, look for solid colors or designs that aren't too "Christmas-y" that can be used throught the year.

The same goes for solid-colored paper products.

And remember, red items (even candies) can be used for Valentine's Day. Green items will work for St. Patrick's Day.

And stocking-stuffer items will also work in goody bags if your kids have birthday parties coming up. These tips come from Erin Huffstetler of About.com.

She also suggests buying holiday gift packages -- of things like perfumes, cookies, hot-chocolates, etc. -- and re-packaging them to give at other times of the year.
