Officers found her Friday in the trunk of her car. She was bound, in her nightwear and suffering from dehydration and hypothermia.
They found her in the Scottish town of Airdrie where they had been looking because they had tracked transactions made on her bank card to the area. Makola lives in Livingston, just west of Airdrie. Both towns are between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Officers patrolling Airdrie's streets in search of Makola heard cries coming from the red Vauxhall and broke into the car to free her.
She may have been in the car trunk for up to 10 days, Chief Inspector Tommy Tague of Lothian and Borders Police said Saturday. Tague said Makola, in stable condition at an area hospital, was "extremely traumatized" by her ordeal.
"We were absolutely delighted to find she was safe and well and alive," Tague said. "It is a hell of a long time to be in the boot (trunk) of a motor vehicle."
Police said it was fortunate temperatures last week had been reasonably mild for this time of year. Temperatures stayed above freezing.
Police had said Saturday that they were looking for someone Makola knew in connection with the case. On Sunday, they announced a man had been taken into custody. As is customary in Britain, police didn't name him.
The suspect is due to appear in a Scottish court Monday.
Police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the case.
