Easton Suburban Water Authority routinely monitors water for turbidity (cloudiness). This tells the Water Authority whether they are are effectively filtering the water supply.

On January 3, 2009, the turbidity level exceeded 2.25 turbidity units for a few minutes.

This is above the standard of 1 turbidity units.

Because of these high levels of turbidity, officials say there was an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.

A boiling notice was issued to all customers of the Easton Suburban Water Authority. The ban has since been lifted.

Due to the water ban, the Easton Area School District cancelled classes today. All school offices will be closed as well.
