Baseball makes Romero suspension official

PHILADELPHIA - January 5, 2009 - During a conference call Tuesday morning, the Philadelphia Phillies called Romero's suspension unfortunate, but said they support the league's decision.

The suspension is for what the league is calling "negligence" in regards to an illegal supplement.

It all began when Romero bought an over-the-counter supplement back in July at a GNC Store.

He had it checked out by nutritionists who decided it was legal. Even the players association thought it was o.k.

But then, in September, he tested positive for banned substances. The test was linked to that same supplement.

Since then, the players association has sent a letter out to all players warning them that several supplements from nutritional stores that were believed to be ok actually are not.

No one says Romero intentionally did anything wrong.

Romero had two wins pitching from the bullpen for the Phillies in the 2008 World Series.
