Assault leads to plea for help

WILMINGTON, DEL. - January 6, 2009 It started out as a simple walk across Kirkwood Highway in Wilmington for fast food. It ended in a fast trip to Christiana Hospital after police said an innocent man was attacked from behind.

"In this case the subject was pushed down to the ground, hit his head and suffered some pretty serious head trauma," said Cpl. Jeffrey Whitemarsh of the Delaware State Patrol.

So serious the unidentified 43-year-old victim, a single father of 2, is in critical care and doesn't even recognize his own parents. They asked us to conceal their identity.

"He didn't deserve it. All he was doing was going to the store to get stuff for his sons to eat and to be accosted by low life individuals like this. He didn't deserve this."

The victim's tearful father wonders why no one is helping police crack the case. The attack happened 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9th.

The Burger King restaurant was open along with several other businesses along the busy roadway where the man was walking.

"If there's anybody out there that knows anything please, please, help if you can."

"Somebody needs to be held responsible for this. The guy is in really grave condition and there is the potential he could not pull through," said Cpl. Whitemarsh.

While doctors at Christiana fight to save a life, a mother and father are fighting too, fighting for answers and justice for their son.

"I don't care what it takes. I just want them caught."

Anyone who may have seen the attack should contact Delaware State Police.
