Filene's Basement in Springfield has everything on sale

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - January 7, 2009

It looks a lot like a "Going Out of Business" sale, but store employees say they don't know whether the store will close.

All sales are final, so you have to be a careful shopper. But there are definitely deals to be had.

Everything in the store is at least 20% off, with some items, such as jewelry, up to 80% off.

We found a number of great deals.

A cream-colored, silk, striped Armani eveningwear blazer, with an original price tag of $4895 still on it, was on sale for $400.

A navy blue velvet Armani skirt, with its original $2025 price tag, was on sale for $160.

A sheer Chloe blouse, with an original tag of $385, was on sale for $28.

Miraclesuit bathing suits, with price tags of $110 were just $28. And Danskin exercise tops were just $8.

Employees say the store is still accepting gift cards, but no new gift cards are being sold.

Action News made several attempts to find out whether the store is closing. But our emails and phone messages to Filene's corporate offices in Massachusetts remain unanswered.

In an article that appeared in the Baltimore Sun on January 6, 2009, Company President Mark Shulman said stores in that area are not at the point of closing -- though they are having sales like the one Springfield.
